How to play Minecraft PE Worlds on Minecraft Java Edition

Minecraft is the ultimate sandbox game and is available on multiple platforms including Pocket Edition (Minecraft PE). Minecraft PE allows players to play on the go where ever they are on their Android or iOS devices. This can lead a player to have different worlds on their mobile phone device and their desktop client. This guide will show users how to play Minecraft PE Worlds on Minecraft Java Edition on their desktop.

Required Utilities

Unfortunately there is not a single utility that can simply copy your Minecraft world from your mobile device to your Java Edition. The process involves different steps using the utilities below depending on what version you’re running.

Here are some utilities we’ll use in this guide:

  • MCPE Backup App – We’ll use this to copy the world on your mobile device into a zip folder
  • FX File Explorer – This will allow us to copy the backed up world to your Google Drive
  • Google Drive – We’ll temporarily store our Minecraft PE world here to copy to our Minecraft Java Edition computer.
  • Amulet – Minecraft World Editor and Converter
  • Minecraft Realms – Only needed if you need to move an existing MCPE World to the Java Edition on your desktop

Copy a NEW Minecraft PE World to Java Edition

Minecraft PE stores worlds in different places on your phone depending on how you have the app configured. To make a new world accessible so we can copy it to Minecraft Bedrock Edition we need to do the following:

On your Mobile Device

  • Open Minecraft PE
  • Click Settings > Profile – Change the File Storage Location to External. The default location is application
Minecraft PE settings for the File Storage Location where Minecraft will store worlds.
  • Create a new world
  • Open MCPE Backup
MCPE Backup Screen showing different worlds for backup.
  • Select the World you wish to copy to your Bedrock Edition
  • Open FX File Explorer and go to / > Storage > Emulated > 0 > MCPE
  • Select the folder with the latest backup file. You may need to open each one if there are several.
FX File Explorer showing MCPE Backup worlds from Minecraft PE
  • Press and hold the ZIP file with the World (it will have today’s date/time as part of the file name if you just backed it up). The “Cut, Copy Delete and three dot menu” option will appear on top of the screen
FX File Explorer menu showing options for sharing files.
  • Click the three dots menu and select Share
  • On the Share menu, select “Save to Drive”
  • Change the name of the file if you wish, otherwise select Save in the lower right

On your PC

  • After the file uploads/saves, go to your Google Drive, right click on the file and download it to your computer.
  • Open the folder and the ZIP file and copy the contents to a temporary folder
  • If the Minecraft version (1.16.5, 1.17, etc.) on your phone is different from your desktop version, convert it to the same version using Amulet – see below.
  • Copy your the World folder to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\Saves – remember to replace the username part with your own PC username
  • Start Minecraft Java Edition and load the world.

Copying an Existing Minecraft PE World to Bedrock Edition

There’s a few more steps but it is possible to take an existing Minecraft PE World and move it to your desktop so you can play it on Minecraft Java Edition. To play an existing Minecraft PE world on Minecraft Java Edition, follow these steps:

On your Mobile Device

  • Open Minecraft PE
  • Click Edit (Pencil icon) for the World you want to transfer and select Play on Realm. This requires that you have a Realm account with Minecraft. Save and exit from the Realm
  • Click Settings > Profile – Change the File Storage Location to External. The default location is application
Minecraft PE settings for the File Storage Location where Minecraft will store worlds.
  • Back on the Realm, go into Settings > Backups
  • Click on the down arrow next to the latest copy to down a copy of the World.
  • Open MCPE Backup
  • Select the World you wish to copy to your Bedrock Edition
MCPE Backup Screen showing different worlds for backup.
  • Open FX File Explorer and go to / > Storage > Emulated > 0 > MCPE
  • Select the folder with the latest backup file. You may need to open each one if there are several.

On your PC

  • After the file uploads/saves, go to your Google Drive, right click on the file and download it to your computer.
  • Open the folder and the ZIP file and copy the contents to a temporary folder
  • If the Minecraft version (1.16.5, 1.17, etc.) on your phone is different from your desktop version, you’ll need to convert it to the same version using Amulet – see below.
  • Copy your the World folder to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\Saves – remember to replace the username part with your own PC username
  • Start Minecraft Java Edition and load the world.

Troubleshooting

  • World is missing or not listed in Minecraft Java Edition – Make sure the world is the same version. The version of Minecraft – v1.16.5 or 1.17, etc. should be the same on the mobile device and the desktop installation. Try converting it through Amulet and copying the converted world to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\Saves
  • World does not load – Make sure the world is the same version. The version of Minecraft – v1.16.5 or 1.17, etc. should be the same on the mobile device and the desktop installation. Try converting it through Amulet and copying the converted world to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\Saves

Converting the World Version in Amulet

Minecraft is pretty sensitive to what version a Minecraft world comes from. Thankfully there are utilities that will convert a Minecraft World from one version to another. The best tool to to use is called Amulet. Amulet will convert any Minecraft version into another and vice versa.

  • Open your desktop version of Minecraft Java Edition
  • Create a New World. This will be our “target” world for the conversion. If you want to save a copy of this world, copy it from C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\Saves (changing “(your pc username)” to the username you use to log into the computer) and copy the world to another folder.
  • If you haven’t already, download Amulet and extract it to a folder.
  • Run amulet_app.exe and maximize the window
Amulet opening screen
  • Open the World that you want to convert
  • Click on the Convert tab on the left and then Select Output World
  • Select the new world you created above. Amulet will use this version to determine what version it needs to convert the source world to.

  • If needed, copy the world to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\Saves
  • Open Minecraft and select the converted world

Conclusion

While many guides will say that it’s impossible or there’s no way to play your Minecraft Pocket Edition (MCPE) worlds on a PC, the steps above will show you how it’s possible to play Minecraft PE Worlds on Minecraft Java Edition. What are your thoughts? We’d love to hear them! You can contact us and share your thoughts on playing Minecraft on different platforms!

How To Make And Repair A Fishing Rod In Minecraft

Fishing in Minecraft has changed so much over the years, but it is still one of the best ways to gather food when there aren’t reliable sources of meat nearby. There will always be bodies of water in Minecraft. Even if you’re stuck in a seemingly endless desert biome, there’s bound to be a small body of water or two. When you stumble upon water and notice your food bar getting low, it’s time to whip out a fishing rod and practice patience, but how do you make a fishing rod in Minecraft?

Minecraft fishing pole

How To Make A Fishing Rod

If you want to make a fishing rod in Minecraft, you will have to get three sticks and two strings. That might sound easy enough, but facing spiders might feel like a daunting task if you’re still at the beginning of the game.

Crafting a fishing rod in Minecraft

Fortunately, you usually come out of a death battle with an annoying jumping spider with a string. Hopefully, you survive spider encounters long enough to get the necessary number of string you need. Take the sticks and put one in the last block of the first row, the second block of the second row, and the first block of the third row. You would then put a string in the third block of the second row and the third block of the third row. However, like other tools, your fishing rod will lose durability after multiple uses.

How To Repair A Fishing Rod

Repairing a fishing rod in Minecraft

Repairing a fishing rod in Minecraft is as easy as repairing any other tool in Minecraft. If you have multiple fishing rods, you open up the crafting table or a grindstone. Place one fishing rod next to the other, and it will repair based on the durability of both items combined.

It’s a great way to repair a fishing rod if you don’t want to have to keep slaughtering spiders just to keep your inventory of fish up.

Best Ways To Allocate More RAM In Minecraft

Minecraft might look simple enough, but it is one of the most hardware-intensive games out there. You’ll notice how intensive Minecraft can get when you start using different texture packs, shaders, or even basic redstone builds.

Vanilla Minecraft can get stale after playing for so long, so people end up turning to modding. Unfortunately, without the proper amount of RAM, Minecraft will end up stuttering or even crashing. Fortunately, Minecraft makes it pretty easy to allocate more RAM to the application. These are the best ways to allocate more RAM in Minecraft.

allocate more memory to minecraft for better performance.

Allocate More RAM Through A Mod

Minecraft memory settings

If you’re using modpacks then, chances are, you’re using ATLauncher (which itself is a mod). ATLauncher makes it easy to mod the game without having to mess with different folders and installation headaches. ATLauncher also makes it easy to remove packs without messing up the game.

Fortunately, ATLauncher also makes it easy to allocate more RAM in Minecraft. Simply open the ATLauncher app, navigate the settings, click the Java/Minecraft tab, and use the arrows in the “Maximum MemoryRAM field” to adjust how much RAM you want to use.

Allocate More RAM With The Default Launcher

Minecraft launcher memory settings

If you’re not a fan of mods, but Minecraft is still crashing on you merely using the vanilla game, you can allocate more RAM directly through the default launcher. Often, people don’t play around in the default launcher. They think everything is good to go, click play, and start exploring. However, the default launcher can help solve a lot of technical issues you may be having in Minecraft.

To allocate more RAM using the default launcher, you simply open the launcher first. After that, you navigate your way to “installations” along the top, hover over the most recent version of the game, click to expand on the right side where you will see an option to “edit.” Once you’re on the edit installation screen, you’ll see “JVM arguments” at the bottom. The code might look confusing, but you’d simply need to change the “2” in the code to however much RAM you want Minecraft to use.

Hopefully, these tips will help you until you’re able to purchase more RAM for your system.

What Is A Waterlogged Toolbox In World of Warcraft?

In the second big content patch of the Battle for Azeroth expansion for World of Warcraft, the waterlogged toolbox was added. It can only be purchased by a secretive (but friendly) Murloc in World of Warcraft.

What Is A Waterlogged Toolbox In World of Warcraft

Of course, like any mysterious new NPC, you’ll have to do something for Mrrl first before you can access his goods. Unfortunately, when you find Mrrl, he isn’t in the best of shape, and you need to escort him to the safety of his lair in a quest called “A Safer Place,” with his other friendly Murlocs. It’s a relatively easy mission as there is very little danger to him. If anything, he should be escorting you as you’re the one who can die while escorting Mrrl, but he simply respawns if you happen to be bad at escorting missions.

Once you’ve helped him out, then he’ll make himself available to you as a vendor. However, you will have to purchase common items from his Murloc friend Hurlgrl, Flgrrl, Grrmrlg, and Mrrglrlr. Try saying those names five times fast.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there. If you want to grab a waterlogged toolbox, you would need to have access to the Azsh’ari Stormsurger Cape. It might give some decent critical strike and haste at L120, but you’re wanting it to have access to the Murloc traders’ special stocks when it is equipped. Once you have access to Mrrl’s special item table, you can see the Waterlogged Toolbox, but what does it give when you open it?

Opening a Waterlogged Toolbox from Mrrl gives you access to various Nazjatar items like a chum, but if you already have one of those items in your inventory, you won’t open the box. If you already have the item, then you’ll receive a, “You can’t do that right now,” message.

Just make sure you purchase items from all of Mrrl’s friends before letting you buy the Waterlogged Toolbox.

Remote work tools

More people are working remotely these and employees need remote work tools that allow them to connect with one another, their employer and customers. This guide will help you find remote work tools that are free or cost effective.

Free Tools

You might think that remote work tools come at a cost, there are tools that let you work remotely and stay connected to your business for free. Below is a list of tools that will allow you to work remotely and stay connected.

Remote Workstation Access Tools

One of the most important aspects of working remotely is being able to connect with your workstation in the office and gain remote workstation access. While there are tools like GoToMyPC, they cost money, however, Google actually has a tool called “Remote Desktop” that lets you remotely access your workstation from any browser. It’s a Chrome Plugin that is protected by a six digit PIN behind your Google account. All you need to do is go to https://remotedesktop.google.com/ and it will pull up a list of workstations that you have installed this on. This tool also works to provide remote support to your clients. They also can go to this site and you can remote into their workstation.

Alternatively you can use Teamviewer. Teamviewer allows you to remotely access your workstation but it is limited to non-commercial use. This might only work for a non-profit organization. If you do any commercial activity, they can limit your account so be careful!

Share your Desktop

Do you have a need to share your desktop or make a presentation with multiple people? There are free tools for that as well. One of the most popular is Zoom. Zoom has free plans as well as more expensive plans. The free plans allow for clients and partners you view your desktop or allows you to view their desktop. This is a great way to collaborate!

An alternative to Zoom is Skype. Skype allows you to have video conference calls for free with multiple people. It also allows you to share your desktop as well. This is another great way to collaborate with your partners!

If the free plans at Zoom or Skype do not meet your needs, you can alternatively look at join.me. They have plans that are slightly cheaper than Zoom’s higher plans but would do the same thing.

If you are doing a Web conference, I highly recommend using a headphone and microphone. A pair like the Cowin E7 is one of the most highly rated pairs and are worth consideration.

Free Conference Calls

If you need to host a meeting with a number of people and don;t need to share your screen, there are ways to host free conference calls. FreeConferenceCall.com offers free conference calls. They also have high plans but if all you need is a conference line, this should work. There are other providers as well if you do a search you will find others.

Low cost remote work tools

If the free tools are too limiting for your needs, there are several low cost tools that you can use to meet your needs. We’ve already covered some low cost alternatives to remote desktop access, desktop sharing and conference calls above but those aren’t the only tools you need to work remote.

Low Cost Cell Phone Plans

We’ve covered this in another guide but Visible Wireless is a cell phone company owned by Verizon that uses Verizon’s cellular network but gives you truly unlimited data. It’s only 5Mbps but that’s a lot faster than Verizon or AT&T after they throttle you down. It’s as low as $25 a month and you can connect a phone to a wireless router as we explained in our guide and this will allow you to connect multiple devices.

While that 5Mbps might seem like a slow connection, it’s more than enough to stream a full HD TV show and for a video conference. So take a look at our guide and see how you can get unlimited data for just $25 a month!

Remote work accessories

To be successful in working remote, you’ll need some remote work accessories such as headphones, desktop accessories and some computer peripherals.

Remote work tools such has these Cowin E7 noise cancelling headphones can make your virtual office work a success.
Cowin E7 Noise Cancelling Headphones with Microphone

One of the highest rated headphones with a microphone is the Cowin E7 noise cancelling headphones. This over the ear design will give you a more immersive experience and allow you clearly hear conversations and for your participants to clearly hear you as well. That’s key for a successful conference call or Web conference.

Another tool that you will need is a Webcam. Webcams come pre-installed on many laptops and tablets. Having said that, sometimes it’s nice to have a camera separate from your screen. It frees you up and gives you some freedom as to where the camera is placed. The LarmTek 1080P Webcam is one of the best sellers that you might not have heard of. It has a built in microphone and is highly rated by users so check it out. It’s one of the few Webcams that comes with a built-in cover for privacy when not in use.

How to edit 360° Videos

360° videos can allow a user to immerse users into a place. Sometimes you capture more video than you want and you might need to edit some of the content. The problem is that using a regular video editor removes needed spatial metadata and the video will not display properly. This is where this guide on how to edit 360° videos comes to help.

Editing your 360° Video

You can actually edit your 360° video using any video editor but most editors don’t natively display 360° properly. You can still cut out the segments that you do not want and stitch the sections that you want to keep together.

Shotcut
Shotcut

Shotcut is a powerful open source video editor and you can use that out of the box to edit the video just like you would edit any other video. After you open the video and put it in the timeline, find the part that you want to cut and click on the “Split video at play head” at the beginning of the section you want to delete and at the end. That should put the entire segment that you want to delete as a separate part. You can select that and press the delete key and viola! It’s gone. Finish by exporting the video.

If Shotcut is too complex, you can also use a tool like Avidemux to cut out the segment(s) that you don’t want to include. To do this, open the video in Avidemux, using the A->B buttons, select the beginning and end of the segments you want to keep. That will skip the parts that you don’t want. You’ll wind up with several videos that you’ll need to append together – open the first segment and then File>Append the other segments.

When you’re done editing your video, make sure you save it as an MP4 video. This, along with the spherical size, is what the metadata injector will be looking for.

Using the Spatial Media Metadata Injector

The key component before uploading your video to YouTube is using the spatial media metadata injector to put back the 360° video metadata.

The Spatial Media Metadata Injector
The Spatial Media Metadata Injector

Start by downloading the Spatial Media Metadata Injector from Github. There’s really nothing to install so just copy the files to a separate folder that you can access. Run the GUI program and open your edited 360°. Press “Inject metadata” and it will create a new video and add the suffix “injected” to the video name. That’s the video that you want to upload to YouTube.

Conclusion

Hopefully this guide on how to edit 360° videos helps you produce cleaner 360°. Have fun!

How to create a Website and passive income

If you have a business, organization or even just an idea that you want to share, you need a Website. Perhaps you’re looking to earn some passive income – you need a Website! This article will guide you through the process of what you need to do in order to create a Website.

There are companies that do all the work for you and give you a framework to add your content (such as my service – I know, a shameless plug) but you might want to do it yourself. This will give you a framework to work with if you want to do it yourself.

Domain Registrar

To start, you’ll need a domain. A domain is the Website address like “LincOn.com”. To obtain a domain you need to go to a registrar like GoDaddy.

Web Hosting Service

You also need a robust host to keep all your data and Website. You might see that the registrar can act as your host but it’s good to have a dedicated service that can host your Website. That way if anything goes wrong and you want to switch hosts or your registrar, you can. I have used Media Temple for over 20 years and recommend their services for your host. We can even host your site for you and as I mentioned, do all of this work for you.

How to switch Name Services

Once you have a host and they have configured your service, you need to point the DNS or Domain Name Service name servers to your host. It’s really system. Just look for Name Servers at your Registrar and change them to the Name Services of your new host.

WordPress

With everything pointed in the right direction, you need to create a platform for your Website to be built on. One of the most used platforms is called WordPress. WordPress will create beautiful sites for you!

To install WordPress, your host should have an option to automatically install it. Sometimes this is called “one click” installs or something like that. Follow the prompts to complete the install.

Once the framework is in place you can start to customize it. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, I would enhance the base version of WordPress with a few Plugins that will give us some extra options.

WordPress Plugins

To add Plugins to WordPress, click on the Plugins menu option from the WordPress menu on the left. Next to the title you will see “Add New”. Click that and you’ll see a list of featured Plugins. Search for, install and activate the following Plugins:

  • WP Statistics
  • Social Media Feather
  • Yoast SEO

There’s thousands of others but these will allow you to see who is visiting your site, what they are looking at and allow visitors to share content that they find interesting. It will also help users find your content by adding meta tags to your pages.

WordPress Themes

It’s also a good idea to add some themes. Themes are how everything looks and how things are laid out. It allows you to artistically change the layout of your site with a click of a button.

To add themes, click on Appearance, then Themes and then Add New. You can add popular themes or search for features that you’d like to see.

Once you have loaded a number of themes, you can click on any of them and do a “live preview”. This will show you the site and how it would look with the new theme. If it’s close to what you want your site to look like, you can activate it and start to customize it to make it look like what you want.

Setting up your site

Once you have the framework and theme for your site, you can start creating posts or pages for your site. A page will allow you to setup the page the way you want it and posts will be articles displayed on a page. For basic sites, pages might be the easiest way to create your site.

Go ahead and click on Pages and Add New. Give your page a title and type up some content. You can add images, titles, columns and anything else you’d like to see on your site. When you are ready, click on “Pubish” and then “Publish” again to make the page live.

To setup that page as your homepage or the page that loads every time when someone types up your domain, choose Settings and then Reading from the menu on the left. Here you can tell WordPress that you want a static page for your homepage. Select the page that you just created and save the setting.

Adding Content

You’ll want more than one page of information so your homepage doesn’t get too crowded. You can create additional pages just like you did your homepage. To create a link, just highlight the word that you want to be the link, select the link icon (looks like a chain link fence piece) and enter the name of your page that you want to link to. Don’t forget to save your settings.

You’ll want to add pages and posts that are relevant to your topic and fit a need for users looking for information. If you’re a physical business or a small business, this might be what you need to drive business to you. However, you might want some passive income from the site and the next section is for you.

Getting Passive Income

If you want to use your site to earn passive income, you’ll need to have a site full of content that fills a need. The best way to do that is to find topics that you know a lot about and there aren’t many pages out there that have that content. Create multiple articles (pages, posts) and after about 10 months, 100+ articles and you’re seeing solid traffic to your site, apply for Google adsense to have ads on the site.

You’ll need a plugin that will insert the ads but since people are searching for the content that you have on your site and are going there, the ads will be relevant and you will earn income from the ads.

You can also have an Amazon affiliation which will pay you a small percentage of the item if someone buys it through your site.

Unlimited* Mobile or Home Internet for $40/mo

Are you some who is tired of paying hundreds of dollars a month just for basic Internet service? Some cable companies charge $70, $80, $90 or more a month. They then make ridiculous claims of high speed service as if you need it. I’m here to show you how you can get unlimited* mobile or home Internet for $40/mo.

What unlimited really means

I have to qualify unlimited* with an asterisk because every company, even cable companies put limits on your Internet access. They limit how much data you can transfer and I didn’t want someone to think that I was saying something that didn’t exist. The limiting factor is that after 70GB’s you *MIGHT* have your speed slowed down if a lot of people are using the tower that you connect to. However, that happens even with cable Internet and most cell phone plans regardless of how “unlimited” they claim to be.

Also, the speed seems to be capped at 5MB/s. This is plenty fast enough for general Web browsing, game play and streaming 1080P HD video to your TV. I know the cable companies make it sound like you need “Gigabit” Internet just to watch TV and browse the Web but you really don’t. For 95% of the population this would be more than enough.

One other caveat. This is going to involve tweaking settings on a phone and in a wireless router. If you are not comfortable doing that, this guide might not be best for you. For folks like that, you might want to consider a Verizon unlimited* plan that is one stop package. It’s is $75 a month though once you consider taxes and fees.

Other thoughts…

This setup uses Verizon’s network without charging Verizon’s rates and would be great for home users as well as full-time RVer’s or those RVers just going away for a weekend in their RV and needing to stay connected to the Internet.

I also want to mention that I am not an affiliate nor representative of any of the companies mentioned so I do not get a kickback. I’m just here to help folks as I have for 25 years.
