\n<\/script>\n<\/div><br style=\"clear: both; display: block; float: none;\"\/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lincon.com\/site\/lincon-coms-guides\/simple-budgeting\/creating-a-budget\/\">Creating a Budgeting<\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/lincon.com\/site\/lincon-coms-guides\/simple-budgeting\/household-expenses\/\">Household Expenses<\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/lincon.com\/site\/lincon-coms-guides\/simple-budgeting\/debt-payments\/\">Debt Payments<\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/lincon.com\/site\/lincon-coms-guides\/simple-budgeting\/travel-budgeting\/\">Travel Budgeting\ufeff<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So now that we\u2019ve saved money from our monthly mandatory expenses, how about we save some money on something fun like travelling?\u00a0 There are lots of ways to save money on travelling and I\u2019ve mentioned some suggestions already like buying gas in cheaper places as you travel and even shown you how to find those islands of cheaper gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How about hotels?&nbsp; We all need to\nstay in hotels and for years I\u2019ve been using Priceline&nbsp;to help me save thousands on hotels and I\nalways stay at top notch hotel that cost hundreds a night and I usually pay\nless than $100 a night.&nbsp; I could stay at\na budget hotel because every room is the same when the lights are off but why\nscrimp when you\u2019re on vacation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Priceline\u00a0Hotels<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Priceline&nbsp;(priceline.com) offers many different services\nbut the main one that I use it for is to book hotels.&nbsp; I start by doing a search for hotels in the\ncity\/town I will be staying in on a given date.&nbsp;\nI try and book about a month out so I have plenty of time to secure a\ngood room at the lowest possible price.&nbsp;\nThis is going to give me a list of hotels that are available and the\ngoing rate for those rooms.&nbsp; After\nlooking at the list, I\u2019ll click on the Express Deals&nbsp;tab which is going to give me a list of hotel\ndeals by hotel class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Express Deals&nbsp;list will show me deals that are available for\nmy stay.&nbsp; So for example, it will show a\nfour star hotel in a particular zone and the rate at which the hotel is\navailable.&nbsp; These are the same named\nhotels in the original list but we just don\u2019t know the name of the hotel.&nbsp; The rates will be about 30% less than the\nregular rate.&nbsp; This list is important\nbecause it tells me what I could get a hotel for and that I shouldn\u2019t pay more\nthan that for that level of hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I then move on to the Name your Own Price\u00ae&nbsp;tab.&nbsp;\nThis is where I am going to save the largest amount, if a hotel will\ntake my bid.&nbsp; The thing to know is that\nyou can only bid for a hotel once every 24 hours so if your bid is not taken,\nyou can either wait 24 hours (you\u2019re bidding in advance, right?) or take an\nexpress deal.&nbsp; You can bid again if you\nchange the dates of your stay (which we don\u2019t want to do) or if we change which\nzone that we are bidding for a hotel.&nbsp;\nThat last part is important because if you\u2019re bidding for four star\nhotels and you add a zone that doesn\u2019t have four star hotels, you\u2019re basically\ngetting a free re-bid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, start by clicking on the check boxes and see which zones have 3, 4\nor 5 star hotels (we want a good hotel, right?).&nbsp; Make note of the ones that do not have 3, 4\nor 5 star hotels.&nbsp; You need to uncheck\nthe box and then check the box of another zone to make sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, select the zone that you want to find a hotel and select the\nhighest star level available in that zone.&nbsp;\nNext to the Name your Own Price box it will tell you what the median\nprice is for a hotel in that zone.&nbsp; If we\nare far enough out, we want to start are bidding as low as we can go, about 50%\noff the displayed median price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So enter a bid price that is 50% of the median price for your zone and\nwork your way through the rest of the fields and see if you are\nsuccessful.&nbsp; If not, you can either bid\nfor a lower star hotel in the same zone, but again, adjust your bid price\naccordingly.&nbsp; Repeat this if necessary\nbut don\u2019t select a lower star hotel class than you want and one that is above\nwhat is available in other zones.&nbsp; If\nyou\u2019re at this point, you can select another zone that doesn\u2019t have any hotels\nat the star level you\u2019ve selected.&nbsp; You\ncan raise your bid $5 and see if you are successful.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are not successful, wait 24 hours and start the process all over\nagain but start bidding another $5 higher.&nbsp;\nRepeat this daily until you are bidding just under the Express Deal\noffer.&nbsp; If you\u2019ve reached that point then\nyou\u2019ve reached the lowest possible price for a room in the zone that you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One word about beds.&nbsp; When\nPriceline&nbsp;books the room, it\u2019s a room for two people so\nyou might get a room with two beds or a single bed.&nbsp; So if you want a certain bed type, I usually\ncall the hotel and ask them to check the reservation that I just made online (I\ndo not mention Priceline!).&nbsp; If the room\ntype is correct, I leave it alone but if not, I ask them if they could change\nit.&nbsp; 99.999% of the time they will change\nit but in all my years I only had one say that they couldn\u2019t because I made the\nreservation through Priceline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you arrive at the hotel you\u2019ll just need to show your ID and a\nmajor credit card.&nbsp; I often ask how much\nthey need to pre-authorize and it\u2019s often just $25 to $75.&nbsp; For this I\u2019ll use my debit account at Bank of\nAmerica because for some reason they don\u2019t actually take the money out of the\naccount, unless I use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>House Rental<\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Another option for longer stays in a given area is renting a home.&nbsp; Websites like Home Away (homeaway.com) help\nyou search for available units and even see and connect with owners.&nbsp; For longer stays this will be cheaper than\ngetting a hotel room, even if bidding through Priceline.&nbsp; You\u2019ll often wind up with a nicer place and\nlocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Car Rentals<\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes you can\u2019t have your car with you and you need a rental\ncar.&nbsp; To save money here, I look to two\nplaces: Priceline&nbsp;and contract ID\u2019s from groups that I belong\nto.&nbsp; For example, if you are or are\nrelated to an alumni of a Big Ten school, then you can use contract # 5000491\nand receive big discounts.
