Synopsis: Area works to preserve and interpret traditional instrumental and vocal folk music, folklife traditions, traditional arts, the heritage and influences of the Cherokee Indians, and various historic sites and collections of artifacts in the 24 counties in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western NC. Synopsis: Scenic parkway that rides the ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains from Shenandoah NP, VA to the Smokey Mountains NP, NC Stamp Location: Multiple locations including Cumberland Knob VC (mm 217.5) east of Galax, VA, Moses H Cone Memorial Park VC (mm 294.1) just west of Blowing Rock, Lin Cove Viaduct VC (mm 304.4) south of Blowing Rock, Linville Falls VC (mm 316.4) west of Morgonton, Museum of NC Minerals VC (mm 331.0) east of Spruce Pine, Craggy Gardens VC (mm 364.6) west of Black Mountain, Folk Art Center VC (mm 382.0) north of Asheville, Parkway Headquarters (mm 384.0), Waterrock Knob VC (mm 451.2) just east of Smoky Mountains NP and Oconaluftee VC (just inside Great Smoky Mountains NP at the end of the parkway). Cape Hatteras NS | ||

Synopsis: Ecological park protecting outer most baks of state. Stamp Location: Available at Bodie Island Visitor Center on SR 12 just south of Nags Head, Hatteras Island Visitor Center off SR 12 near Buxton (& Cape Hatteras itself), the Ocracoke Island Visitor Center on SR 12 (free 40 minute ferry ride required) and at the group headquarters in Manteo at Fort Raliegh NHS. |

Cape Lookout NS | ||

Synopsis: Ecological park protects southern most outer banks. More scenic and less crowded of the NS’s protecting the outer banks. Stamp Location: Visitor center located on Harkers Island. Follow US 70 to Otway, and then follow signs to the island. Very scenic ride. Also be available at Cape Lookout lighthouse ranger station and at the Portsmouth Willage ranger station (seasonal) on the island and each is only reachable by ferry from Harkers Island or Ocracoke respectivly. |

Synopsis: Preserves home of popular author. Stamp Location: A 0.3 mile uphill hike is required to visit the main house where the stamp is kept (entrance to bookstore is on the lower level around in the front). The parking area is located on Little River Road across from the Flat Rock Playhouse off of US 25 (exit 22 from I-26 and then follow signs) in Flat Rock. |

Fort Raleigh NHS | ||
Synopsis: Site commemorates the first attempts by the English to colonize the new world which failed (also known as ‘The Lost Colony’). Stamp Location: Inside the Lindsay Warren Visitor Center (to the left if I recall), just past the park headquarters of US 64 in Manteo. |

Synopsis: Park protects over 800 square miles (95% forested), one of the largest protected tracts in the east. Stamp Location: Stamp is available at the Oconaluftee VC just inside the park on US 441. See also Tennessee for additional stamp locations. |

Synopsis: Auto trail follows historic sites from Tennessee to South Carolina commemorating Revolutionary War patriots. Stamp Location: Stamp may be obtained at the Museum of NC Minerals VC (mm 331.0) east of Spruce Pine on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Synopsis: Trail memorializes the forced migration of thousands of natives to land in the west. Many never made it. Stamp Location: Known location: Museum of The Cherokee Indian in Cherokee.
